Whose day is this?
Today, 14th Feb, is popularly known as Valentine’s Day after one St. Valentine, a Roman who was martyred for refusing to give up Christianity. He died on February 14, 269 A.D. Now on this day we send greetings and gifts to those we love.
Now, tell me one thing, if it is St. Valentine’s Day, should we not observe one minute’s silence remembering his death anniversary? Oh, sorry…! I think I’m spoiling your romantic mood…! But if this day is to be observed remembering your loved ones, what will you do on the next day? And on the rest of 364 days? And, do you need to wait till 14th Feb to Love, or express it? What you will do today, you can certainly do on other days as well. Then what is the importance of this day in particular?
Moreover, there are many disadvantages also of this day:
1. First, on this day you are supposed to do what I have mentioned before. Then, if you forget somehow? (Though it is impossible — thanks to ‘media’ — only if you are not blind and deaf at once, or totally senseless) Even if you forget it for once, in spite of having a ‘sweetheart’, (s)he will not let you do so again… you will repent for forgetting it, and even you may have to pay more heavily for doing so. What a menace…!!!
2. Then, this day is not a national holiday. [Though there are exceptions! Vodafone considers it as one and withdraws special (free) services this day.] So, even if you remember it, you may not find enough time. And this is in no way less harmful. You may be fired from Love-Zone for not being able to attend it this day…
3. Suppose you have not forgotten this day and are free also. Then, if it is a ‘holiday’ for you at least, what excuse will you show for going out on such a day? If any, then of course a wrong one…! Then you think you can explain it to others? No way!
4. Suppose you have decided to dodge your work and to spend time with your beloved by fooling others. You will go out just like another day and no one will get the slightest hint that you are going somewhere else. Then, whether you study or work, you may probably carry a bag with you. But will you carry it today, too? Ha! Ha! …you will appear to be a dumb. But you cannot leave it home either…!
5. This day can affect you even if you are not engaged yet. This day is considered to be the most appropriate time to propose; then if you have someone waiting but have not yet decided to settle, you may disappoint her/him if you keep quiet. This day will confuse you even more if you have many hopes of good prospects in love; you may find yourself in a wretched condition, with many options and nothing to do…!
6. In a different case, if you go out and incidentally meet someone of the other sex, this day it will mean that you are out with your ‘sweetheart’…! Does not it make your heart sour? Then, if it happens three times with three different persons in three different places and you get caught every time… you are doomed surely!
7. Now leave Love aside. Suppose you can’t arrange time for it and rather have to go out for WORK and you are settling it with someone on the phone, and someone overhears it. Will you be able to convince her/him that it is just an ‘official’ case, not an ‘emotional’ one? [If your wife overhears that you have some appointment on 14th Feb with someone else, you are doomed again…!]
8. Even if everything goes absolutely right, and at the end you can boast of having a heart overflowing with Love, you’ll surely miss something in your pockets…!
So, have I not rightly said that this day is a menace? So forget whose day it is, but first of all, don’t forget to mention to you sweetheart that each day you spend with her/him is a Valentine’s Day to you…
